Terms of Service

Counselling & Psychotherapy Services

Last updated: February 2026

1. Introduction

These Terms of Service govern the use of this website and the counselling and psychotherapy services provided by Emma Paul (“the Therapist”, “the Practice”, “I”, “me”). By accessing this website or engaging in services, you agree to these Terms.

2. Nature of Services

The Therapist provides professional counselling and psychotherapy services to individuals and couples. Services are offered within a therapeutic framework and are not a substitute for medical, psychiatric, or emergency care.

If you are experiencing a mental health crisis or are at risk of harm to yourself or others, please contact emergency services or a crisis support service immediately.

3. Therapeutic Framework and Approach

The Therapist, Emma Paul, is a qualified counsellor with a special interest in trauma-informed and integrative modalities. Her work draws on a range of approaches including, but not limited to, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), process-based psychotherapy principles, somatic therapy, and yoga-informed practices for trauma-sensitive participants.

The Therapist values the therapeutic relationship as central to the healing process and understands this relationship as a primary vehicle for change. She is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and supportive therapeutic structure in which clients can feel genuinely heard, seen, and accepted without judgement.

Each individual is recognised as unique, with their own ways of understanding challenges and finding resolution. For this reason, the Therapist works from a wellness-oriented, strengths-based model that supports clients to empower themselves by focusing on what works for them, rather than applying a standardised or prescriptive treatment approach. Each client’s therapeutic journey is understood to be personal and distinct.

4. Therapeutic Relationship

Counselling and psychotherapy are collaborative processes that require active participation. While therapy can be beneficial, outcomes cannot be guaranteed and will vary depending on individual circumstances, readiness, and engagement.

5. Appointments and Cancellations

  • Appointments are scheduled in advance.

  • A minimum of 24 hours’ notice is required for cancellations or rescheduling.

  • Late cancellations or missed appointments may be charged the full session fee.

6. Fees and Payment

  • Fees are disclosed on the website or at the time of booking.

  • Payment is required at time of booking unless otherwise agreed.

  • Fees may be reviewed periodically, with reasonable notice provided.

7. Client Rights

Clients have the right to:

  • Ask questions about the therapeutic process and what to expect from therapy

  • Decline or discontinue any therapeutic techniques or interventions offered

  • Cease therapy at any time without penalty and return to therapy at a later date if desired

  • Request access to and review their clinical records, in accordance with legal and ethical guidelines

Clients are encouraged to raise any questions, concerns, or feedback directly with the Therapist. Where possible, these matters will be addressed collaboratively within sessions.

8. Therapist’s Rights

The Therapist reserves the right to:

  • Cease therapy at any time where it is clinically appropriate

  • Refer a client to another professional if she believes the client would benefit more from alternative or additional support

Such decisions are made with the client’s wellbeing as the primary consideration and, where possible, discussed openly and respectfully.

9. Confidentiality

All client information and records are treated as strictly confidential within the limits provided by Australian law and professional ethical standards.

Information will not be shared with any individual, organisation, or agency without the client’s prior written consent, except in the following circumstances:

  1. Where the Therapist believes there is a serious and imminent risk of harm to the client or others

  2. Where disclosure is required by law, including if records are subpoenaed by a court

10. Online and Telehealth Services

Online sessions are provided via secure platforms. While reasonable steps are taken to protect privacy and confidentiality, absolute security of electronic communications cannot be guaranteed.
